Give Russian Yachts to Human Traffickers, German Pol Says

Although having more to do with the illegal migrant crisis in Europe than our own, here’s a story about an unexpected development from the Ukraine situation, as part of our occasional series “Surge at Sea.”

The prime minister of the German state of Thuringia, hard-leftist Bodo Ramelow, has proposed that luxury yachts confiscated from Russian citizens as part of the world’s frenzied de-Russification campaign be given over to an alleged human trafficker NGO known as Sea-Watch.

Officially a maritime rescue service, Sea-Watch operates about 30 boats in the Mediterranean that shuttle migrants from North Africa into Europe, providing an illegal conduit to the West for thousands of migrants in the guise of humanitarianism. Sea-Watch has ties to Antifa and has called itself the “Antifa on the sea,” with its vessels being known to fly the Antifa flag (see below). In addition to its criminal human smuggling operations, Sea-Watch has been accused of human trafficking. In 2020, for example, Italian admiral Nicola De Felice called the vessel Sea-Watch 3 a “slave ship.”

This proposal to support human smugglers and alleged latter-day slavers beggars belief, but that’s where the world is today.
