Federal Reserve: Immigrants Take Jobs from U.S. Teens

The employment rate of American teens has dropped 20 percent since the late 1980s. One of the reasons, says a report by the Federal Reserve, is that immigrants are taking jobs they otherwise would have. “The displacement effect of immigration on the employment of younger persons is much larger than on the employment of prime-age adults,” said the September 2014 report, “Labor Force Participation: Recent Developments and Future Prospects.”
