WH spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre was asked yesterday by Fox News’ Peter Doocy if Joe Biden has any plans to visit our southern border, since “We know the president’s never been down to the border.” Ms Jean-Pierre fired back, “He’s been there. He’s been to the border.” To which a skeptical Doocy asked, “When?” At that point, Jean-Pierre changed the subject.
The exchange set up a brief Twitterstorm of comments from equally skeptical observers.
Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX): “President Biden has not been to the border.”
Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ): “Categorically false. He has never stopped at the southern border in his entire career.”
James Bradley, former California Senate candidate: “Karine Jean-Pierre FACT CHECK: Joe Biden has NOT been to the southern border HE OPENED since he has been president.”
Digging deep into Biden’s past, Washington Examiner reporter Jerry Dunleavy found this: “The only time Biden has conceivably ‘been to the border’ was during a very brief 2008 drive-by when he landed at El Paso airport and rode in a motorcade to the suburb of Las Cruces, with the route there hugging the U.S.-Mexico border for a few minutes.”
In other words, Joe Biden drove by a short section of the border while campaigning for Barack Obama 14 years ago! That’s it.
National Review’s Pradheep Shanker summed up Jean-Pierre’s misstatement this way: “She gets caught in lies daily, it’s amazing.”
