Dems Fight in New York over Migrant Response

It appears that a civil war might be breaking out among Democrats in the Empire State over those 100K+ migrants that have arrived in NYC so far this year and last. On Tuesday, a lawyer for Gov. Hochul filed 12 pages’ worth of documents with the Manhattan Supreme Court, defending the state’s behavior amid the crisis and accusing the city of failing to act in a “proactive and collaborative manner” with state officials in dealing with it. It’s unclear whether Washington’s huge role was mentioned at all.

Curiously, as further evidence of an emerging schism among New York Democrats, those documents were filed by a private law firm. Ordinarily, in similar matters, the state’s Attorney General would have had that duty, yet last week, AG “Tish” James — apparently too busy targeting Trump with laughable charges — withdrew herself and her office from the matter. That recusal was labeled strange, at the very least, by other Democrats. Steven Cohen, former chief of staff under AG Andrew Cuomo, said in a text message that this would occur only “when there is an institutional conflict that cannot be reconciled or there is a fundamental and meaningful policy conflict,” adding that an attorney general “doesn’t step away in favor of a private law firm for no-good [sic] reason.”

(Well, we’re not sure about that. It seems to us they and their ilk do lots of things for “no-good” reasons, but that’s us.)

Both Hochul and Adams were quick to downplay any friction between them that might reflect badly on the party. Adams even said, “I like her. She likes me.”

No, really.
