Butler County, in western Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh, has declared that it will no longer be a “sanctuary county.” As a sanctuary it refused to cooperate with federal immigration law enforcement to deport illegal aliens. One country commissioner stated that the sanctuary status did not reflect the values of most people in the county and that it caused them “a lot of heartache and angst.”
Henceforth, the country will notify Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of the inmates it holds who may be subject for deportation and also allow ICE access to its detention facilities.
