Colorado Follows California in Freebies for Illegals

Californians have been moving to Colorado for years. Now it appears that leftist California ideas are coming along with them. As noted here, California recently voted to provide free health care and food stamps to illegals. Now Colorado, in its own quiet way, is doing much the same.

According to Axios.com, a 2021 Colorado law “makes available state benefits, including dental care, mental health counseling and family services” and “also expands eligibility for property tax, rent and utility subsidies.” The state legislature estimates those added benefits will cost Colorado taxpayers $12 million a year. In addition, last month the federal government approved a Colorado plan to grant health care coverage to as many as 10,000 illegals initially, with more added each year. And, in addition to that, Colorado Governor Jared Polis, a Democrat, has signed a bill to provide Medicaid coverage to pregnant illegal aliens and their children, beginning in 2025. That will cost nearly $30 million a year, but the federal government–ie, you and I–will foot most of that bill.

All of this is Colorado, once a reliably conservative state, following the lead of its new model on the west coast. No wonder that native Coloradans dislike Californians. The best advice to recently relocated Californians in the Centennial State: Change your license plate ASAP!
