Ryan Raises Bogus Labor Shortage Claim

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) criticized the proposed RAISE Act, claiming that its provision to cut legal immigration by half would aggravate an alleged shortage of American workers. Ryan is commonly s spokesman for the Republican Party's cheap labor interests. The congressman's claim about a labor shortage is oblivious to the fact that the U.S. is now on the brink of a major revolution in automation. Some studies indicate that almost half the jobs done by people in recent years will be done by machines and computers in the near-future. In that situation, finding jobs for native-born Americans will be a leading challenge.

Chicago Sues to Defy Sanctuary Ban

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has filed suit against the Trump Administration's plan to cut federal funding to sanctuary cities like Chicago that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration law enforcement. Sarah Flores, a spokeswoman for the Justice Department, replied to Emanuel's action with the following statement, "In 2016, more Chicagoans were murdered in New York City and Los Angeles combined. So it's especially tragic that the mayor is less concerned with that staggering figure than he is spending time and taxpayer money protecting criminal aliens and putting Chicago's law enforcement at greater risk."

Trump Endorses RAISE Act

President Trump endorsed legislation which eventually would cut legal immigration in half. Legal immigration is now that the highest sustained level in our history at more than a million a year. The legislation, introduced by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) and David Perdue (R-GA), is called the Reforming American Immigration for a Strong Economy (RAISE) Act. By cutting immigration, it aims to reduce competition for American jobs. Specifically, it would cut back on immigration based on family connections and favor applications from people with needed skills. "This legislation," said President Trump, "demonstrates our compassion for struggling American families who deserve an immigration system that puts their needs first and that puts America first."

King: End Capitol Hill Sanctuary

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) has introduced legislation to empower Capitol Hill police to enforce immigration law. This would allow them to arrest illegal aliens who protest in Washington. Said King, "The Capitol Police, a federal law enforcement agency, do not have explicit statuary authority to enforce our immigration laws. Without clear authority, they are not investigating the immigration status of protesters opening claiming that they are here illegally while disrupting committee proceedings and shutting down congressional offices." The congressman added that it makes no sense to seek an end to sanctuary cities when Capitol Hill offices "serve as sanctuaries for lawlessness."

Graham Challenges Voters to Remove Him

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), a long-time support of supporter of amnesty and mass immigration has challenged voters in his state who oppose this agenda. At a recent Capitol Hill press conference, Graham stated, "To the people who object to this, I don't want you to vote for me because I cannot serve you well." The senator said he wanted to be "fair" to the 11 million illegal aliens now living in the U.S. as well as increase legal immigration, now running at the highest sustained level in our country's history.

ICE Chief: Charge Sanctuaries with Smuggling

Thomas Homan, acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has proposed that city leaders of sanctuary cities be charged with violation of federal anti-smuggling laws. He also stated that ICE will step up work site enforcement and increase deportations.

Trump: ‘We Are Liberating’

In an address in Youngtown, Ohio, President Trump likened his stand against sanctuary jurisdictions as a policy of liberation. He affirmed that "American cities should be sanctuaries for law-abiding Americans -- the people that look up to the law, the people that respect the law -- not for criminals and gang members that we want the hell out of our country." He added that "We are actually liberating towns and cities. We are liberating. People are screaming from their windows, ‘Thank you, thank you,' to the Border Patrol and to General Kelly's great people that come in and grab these thugs and throw them the hell out. We're liberating our towns and we're liberating our cities."

Gutierrez Attacks Trump

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) is one of the leading advocates of illegal aliens in the House of Representatives. In a recent speech, he called President Trump a "criminal" who must be driven from office by impeachment. The congressman expressed his "love"  for the illegal aliens in the DACA category to whom President Obama unlawfully granted amnesty. Gutierrez once declared that his only loyalty was to "the immigrant community." Evidently that excludes loyalty to America as a country governed by the rule of law.

TX Lt. Governor: Sanctuary Led to Tragedy

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick commented on the recent tragedy in San Antonio where eight illegal immigrants died inside a tractor trailer. Apparently they were abandoned by the smugglers who transported them had brought them. Patrick laid part of the blame on sanctuary cities. He observed that "Sanctuary cities entice people to believe they can come to America and Texas and live outside the law. Sanctuary cities also enable human smugglers and cartels. Today, these people paid a terrible price and demonstrate why we need a secure border and legal immigration reform so we can control who enters our country."
