GOP Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia, a leading pro-amnesty Republican in the House, is being challenged by economics professor Dave Brat who has made Cantor’s weak positions on immigration control a central issue in the race. Cantor recently sent a misleading mailer to GOP voters with the headline “CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN ERIC CANTOR IS STOPPING THE OBAMA REID PLAN TO GIVE ILLEGAL ALIENS AMNESTY.”
The reality is that Cantor favors amnesty, just not the exact language of the Senate Gang of Eight bill, which has never had a chance of passage without changes in the House. The other reality is that Cantor has piles of business money funding his campaign, while his Tea Party challenger is operating on a shoestring budget.
