BOEHNER ‘HELLBENT’ ON PASSING IMMIGRATION BILL THIS YEAR

House Speaker John Boehner is reported to have told big GOP donors at a notorious Las Vegas fundraiser last month that immigration legislation is not dead and he is “hellbent on getting this done this year.” House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) was also upbeat at a recent Silicon Valley fundraiser, according to Carl Guardino, chief executive of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, which hosted the event.  Goodlatte said action on immigration bills was “entirely likely” this summer. Business interests seeking amnesty and a dramatic increase in annual immigration and guestworker admissions want passage this year. One concern they express about waiting until next year is that if the GOP takes the Senate, Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) is slated to become Judiciary Chairman. Grassley voted against the Senate Gang of Eight amnesty/immigration increase bill last year and could be a roadblock in their path to a law giving them more cheap labor.
