Early in the Trump administration, families were pouring illegally over the border from Mexico, in a way not unlike how they’re doing now. The difference was that the government at that time tried to do something about it, namely by deporting the adult members of something like 5,000 families. Unfortunately, because of our witless immigration policies, the children of those families could not be deported and were instead sent to live with relatives or other sponsors throughout the U.S. Hence, we had Family Separation.
Last year, early in the Biden admin, the White House created the “Family Reunification Task Force,” a team of immigration lawyers charged with bringing those families together again.
Not a bad idea. Except for the fact that, Biden being Biden, the reunification would be here, in this country, instead of the countries of those migrants’ origin. In yet another message of welcome to the world’s rootless, the Biden government thus began rewarding the criminal behavior of these migrants by flying them back from the countries they had been deported to. According to the Task Force chief, Michelle Brané–a second-generation American from Detroit–“parents are given the opportunity to come to the U.S. on paid travel, bring other members of their family who are dependent on them, and live and work in the U.S. legally for three years.” [Emphasis added.]
To date, Brané reports that about 400 families have been reunited in the United States this way. With the aid of an NGO with the precious name of KIND (Kids in Need of Defense), the Task Force has been scouring the third world with radio and television spots looking for persons willing to declare themselves members of separated families.
Since those reunited families have come under the influence of lawyers, it is no surprise that, in return for the largesse now being shown them, they are sueing the U.S. government as compensation for the “trauma” they incurred after sneaking into our country. You may recall that one of the early trial balloons floated by the administration was to settle these lawsuits by giving each family member a breath-taking $450,000 to compensate for their ordeal. Faced with a widespread furor, Biden walked that back pretty quickly, but the lawyers are now saying $450K is not enough!
Probably in response to that Putin inflation thing.
