Asylum Will Be Tightened

The Homeland Security and Justice departments are preparing new guidelines to prevent asylum abuse. The plan is two-fold. First it will tighten the definition of persecution. Specifically an asylum applicant will have to prove that the claimed persecution comes from policies of his government. Second, if the applicant for U.S. asylum passes through another country, such as Mexico, his application will be suspect because he could have sought asylum in that country.
