On Monday Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law Senate Bill 4, a measure which empowers any Texas law enforcement officer to arrest suspected illegal aliens. Those found to have entered Texas illegally would be given the choice of leaving or being prosecuted on misdemeanor charges. Those who return after agreeing to leave would face felony prosecution.
Gov. Abbott said that the new law and two other border protection statutes he signed would “better protect Texas and America.” He added that “President Biden’s deliberate inaction has left Texas to fend for itself. These laws will help stop the tidal wave of illegal entry into Texas, add additional funding to build more border wall and crackdown on human smuggling.”
