Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) researchers Steven Camarota and Karen Zeigler have analyzed recent Bureau of Labor Statistics data and found that from January through July, 1.6 million illegal aliens left the United States. They write:
Analysis of the data shows the total foreign-born population of all ages, both in and out of the labor force, declined an unprecedented 2.2 million from January to July – the largest six-month decline ever within the same year.
Non-citizens accounted for all of the falloff in the total foreign-born; the naturalized U.S. citizen population has actually increased some since January.
We preliminarily estimate that the illegal immigrant population declined an astonishing 1.6 million (10 percent) to 14.2 million from January to July of this year.
In addition, recent jobs data has shown that all employment gains in recent months have been to native-born Americans rather than foreign-born workers.
Estimates of the total illegal population of the US vary widely. The Federation for Immigration Reform estimates that in March of this year, there were 18.6 million, many of them recent arrivals during the Biden administration. Trump thus has a way to go but, as Breitbart’s John Binder says, so far the results are “unprecedented.”
