ICE agents have arrested numerous illegal Chinese in New York state whom they say have been defrauding elderly citizens of thousands of dollars. Labeling him a “dirtbag,” the agents on July 8 arrested Jian Chen, who has been charged with defrauding a 63-year-old Potsdam woman of $42,000 and plotting to steal from her an additional $98,000.
Another illegal Chinese, Rihui Yan, was arrested on May 29 in Massena after he attempting to defraud a retired couple out of $20,000. He and Chen are being held pending removal.
Last October 24, Hui Chen, also illegal, in Buffalo, was charged with conspiring to steal $40,000 from an elderly New Yorker. He remains in custody.
Homeland Security Investigations Buffalo Special Agent in Charge Erin Keegan said of these arrests:
We will never stand idly by while bad actors – in this case, illegally present Chinese nationals – target innocent New Yorkers for their own selfish gain. Every day, we are unwaveringly committed to protecting our neighborhoods and individuals’ livelihoods.
