Judge Halts Haitians’ TPS Removal

In accord with immigration policies of the Trump administration, DHS Secretary Noem announced on Monday that TPS protection for some 520,000 Haitians in this country would cease in September 2025. TPS for Haiti had been extended by the Biden administration until Feb. 3, 2026, and — under Biden — would no doubt have been extended in perpetuity beyond that date. Noem, however, moved it up, which — of course — inspired a federal judge to block the move.

Judge Brian Cogan, a George W. Bush appointee, said that Noem could not lawfully change the original end date (meaning that, while such dates can be extended repeatedly, in some case for decades, they cannot ever be moved up, regardless of how automatic and unthinking the most recent extension was). In his ruling, he said the interests of the illegal Haitians “far outweighs” those of the government and the populace

Meanwhile, gangs such as the Zoe Pound, founded in Miami’s Little Haiti quarter and designated in May foreign terrorist organization, are running wild in South Florida, which has more than 1,500 gangs with 65,000 members.

Once again, a local judge is attempting to override the administration’s actions. When will it stop?
