CNN Waves Mexican Flag

The leftist network didn’t exactly wave it themselves, so far as we know, but they are promoting its waving by the hordes of rioters in Los Angeles. In an article titled “The Mexican flag has become a defining symbol of the LA protests,” a CNN reporter tries to explain the phenomenon — among those whom the network assumes to be patriotic Americans — to a gullible native audience.

It’s not that the rioters are professing loyalty to a country other than the one they’re in. It’s just that the Mexican flag has long been “a mainstay at immigration-related demonstrations” due to its “long and complex history.” Harvey quotes one Antonio Rodriguez, an organizer with the Brown Berets, an immigration advocacy group, who contends that the flag is a “symbol of unity, not division.” Rodriguez adds, a little hesitatingly, “I don’t necessarily think just because somebody has pride in their culture that they’re un-American.”

Of course not. Waving a foreign country’s flag while rioting in an American city is perfectly normal and patriotic.

Also quoted is Jorge Castañeda, a former Mexican foreign minister, who told CNN he believes that “practically all of the demonstrators, all of the protesters, are American citizens.” He continued:

You would have to be quite reckless and foolish to be a Mexican citizen without papers, or even as a legal permanent resident, to go out and demonstrate today in these protests because you would most likely be arrested and deported, even if you’re a legal permanent resident and certainly if you have no papers.

So, they are citizens. That’s reassuring. No citizen of any country ever sided with another against his own. That would be —  what? —  treason?
