A C-17 military transport plane delivered 104 criminal Indians home yesterday from the United States. The Indians, who seem to have been picked up along our southern border, were returned to Amritsar in the northern part of the country, chained and manacled .
Not only is India one of the leading countries producing legal immigrants to the US, it is the third top source of illegals, after only Mexico and El Salvador. Pew Research estimated in 2022 that there were at least 725,000 Indians here illegally at that time.
According to official Indian sources, there are approximately 487 Indian citizens with final removal orders still in the US, though that number is or should be much higher. Another report, this from the Hindustan Times, suggests another 600 may be in the process of being prepared for removal. Those are small numbers, however, compared with other estimates. The Indian Express says that “18,000 Indians at risk of being deported” during the current roundup. As usual, the numbers are likely more greater than anyone is willing to say.
The method in which the Indians were transported — while chained on a transport plane — was markedly different than previous repatriations, which involved the use of passenger jets. The head of the opposition Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, lodged a protest with the Modi government on that “inhumane” treatment of his fellow citizens:
Those who were showing the dream of making India Vishwaguru, why are they silent now? Indian citizens are deported to India by being handcuffed like slaves and in inhumane conditions. What the external affairs ministry is doing? What did the govt do to protect children and women from this disrespect?
The way to protect all — men, women, and children — from “disrespect” is to keep them home.
