If current immigration policies continue, the current record level of our foreign-born population will surge far higher in the near future. Today, 52 million foreign-born people reside legally and illegally in the U.S., and they constitute 15.5 percent of our population.
With present policies in place, we are now on target to reach 82 million by 2040, little more than 15 years from now. The foreign-born percentage in that case would be 23.3 percent, or close to one in four residents. With so many foreign-born people here, how likely is it that they will assimilate (or be able to assimilate) to our culture and values? This is a question that mass immigration advocates should be forced to confront.
