NYC Hotels Still Earmarked for Illegals

The city of New York currently rents out about 150 hotels For the sole use of illegal migrants. Each room costs the city about $352 per night, and so far during the Biden administration the city has spent about $2.3 billion. total migrant expenses over the three-plus years is expected to total a breathtaking $5.76 billion.

Meanwhile, the administration of Mayor Eric Adams is in “disarray,” with Adams and many of his associates either under DOJ investigation or actually charged with crimes of corruption. Nevertheless, the city’s Department of Homeless Services is currently negotiating a contract with the hotels to provide 14,000 rooms For migrants through 2025.

Observers, such as Nicole Gelinas, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, say this is unstainable. “the taxpayers can’t pay For this indefinitely,” says Gelinas. “There’s no question that taking a massive supply of hotel rooms off the market is increasing prices at the hotels [For tourists and other visitors]. It just becomes too much For people to afford. It’s clearly hurting the tourism industry. We should stop using hotels as shelters by the end of the year.”

Gelinas added that NY Gov. Kathy Hochul “should take control” of managing the migrant crisis in the city.

For the time being, NYC devolves into a town tourists will soon not want to visit.
