Migrants Fight Cops — and Win

Two illegal migrants in Manhattan got into a fight with NYC police on July 28 in front of the Row NYC Hotel on 700 Eighth Avenue, where they and hundreds like them live on the public dime. The countries of origin of Brian Joseph, 24, and Jose Gonzalez, 19, have not been revealed.

The incident unfolded Sunday night about 9:50 when a police officer spotted Gonzalez recklessly riding a moped in front of the hotel. When the officer asked Gonzalez for identification and was told he had none, he attempted to place the migrant under arrest. Gonzalez resisted, and Joseph and a third, unidentified, male joined in in a fight with the arresting officer and his partner. Both cops were injured: one was bitten on the arm and wrist and the other had the moped kicked on, leaving him with a contusion and a scratched cornea.

Gonzalez and Joseph were arrested; police are said to still be looking for the third migrant. Appearing in court on Monday, the two — as is the practice of NYC DAs —  were released without bail.

Two unnamed officers expressed their opinion of the city’s catch-and-release practice. One said, “What kind of message is this sending to the public? They are basically saying anyone in a blue uniform is a human piñata.” Another called it “allowing open war on cops.”

Cops zero; migrants and DAs, two.
