By a vote of 220-196 the House passed a resolution strongly “strongly condemning” Vice-President Kamala Harris for her failure as “border czar” to “understand the gravity of the crisis at the border.” Harris, the Democrats’ apparent candidate for the presidency, has a long history of antipathy toward immigration law enforcement.
As a senator from California, she once expressed without criticism the view of “some communities” believe that the agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are comparable to Klansmen. She said that ICE, the agency charged with deporting illegal aliens, needed to be rebuilt “from scratch” and one of her spokesmen added that she was considering the idea of a “complete overhaul of the agency, mission, culture, operations.”
In 2015. when Harris was attorney general of California, she stated that “An undocumented immigrant [her term for illegal alien] is not a criminal. I know what a criminal looks like who’s committing a crime. An undocumented immigrant is not a criminal.” Actually, as noted by the Center for Immigration Studies, “[I]llegally crossing the southern border is a federal misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in prison for a first offense and a felony on subsequent violations.”
