Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago has urged the residents of his city to “sacrifice” in order to accommodate the current surge of illegal immigrants into their communities. His statement follows protests by residents who are upset by the problems this surge is causing them.
Said Johnson, “There is a sacrifice that is going to be required in this moment.” He took issue with the statement of New York Mayor Eric Adams that illegal immigration threatens to “destroy” New York. Johnson stated, “I’m not going to accept the notion that the city of Chicago is going to be destroyed. We are a city of big shoulders. We’ve been through difficult moments and challenges before. And we’re gonna get to the other side of this.”
