New York City is a sanctuary city, which means it refuses to cooperate with the federal government’s efforts to enforce immigration laws. New York’s Mayor Eric Adams, however, doesn’t like the consequences his city being a lawbreaker-friendly place.
Specifically, the flow of illegal aliens to the Big Apple is placing an enormous fiscal strain on the city as it strives to provide shelter and services for the newcomers. The total tab is around $4.3 billion.
Adams declared that “The city is being destroyed by the migrant crisis,” and has called on the federal and New York state governments to bail him out. So far, he’s been disappointed. According to Adams, the Biden Administration has abandoned New York, thus causing “one of the largest humanitarian crises that this city has ever experienced.”
Has Adams considered the possibility of revoking NYC’s sanctuary policy to make it less attractive to illegal migrants? No evidence suggests that he has.
