Brace yourself for Sunday, September 25, 2022. That’s the occasion of the 108th “World Day of Migrants and Refugees,” when the Vatican will shout a worldwide Huzzah! praising the earth’s more than 100 million migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, displaced persons, and whatever, clamoring to leave their pestilential homelands for more comfortable digs in the West. Leading up to the WDMR in the United States is the current week, dubbed by the U.S. Catholic Bishops National Migration Week.
The Pope himself kicked off this year’s WDMR in May with the issuance of an Official Message titled “Building the Future with Migrants and Refugees.” In that document, heavily laced with Biblical citations, His Holiness declared that, while migrants and refugees admittedly “represent a great challenge,” they also provide an “immense opportunity for the cultural and spiritual growth of everyone.” Thanks to them, he wrote, “we have the chance to know better our world and its beautiful diversity. We can grow in our common humanity and build together an ever greater sense of togetherness.”
If this sounds like the usual leftish blather we hear from Western politicians intent on putting one over on a gullible and benighted populace, that’s exactly what it is. Pope Francis is the political head of state of Vatican City, an independent enclave within the city of Rome that, aside from St. Peter’s Square, is protected by high walls manned by armed guards.
In that way, the Pope’s city-state differs markedly from what the Pontiff desires for the rest of us. For us, our future homeland “built with migrants and refugees” will be New Jerusalem, a city “whose gates are always open to all peoples.” In NJ, foreigners will be considered “not invaders or destroyers, but willing labourers.” They will, Francis insists, bring “wealth”: ie, “their work, their youth, their enthusiasm and their willingness to sacrifice [to] enrich the communities that receive them.”
Of course, we know this is all hooey. Most of the foreign masses from the Global South bring not wealth but grinding, perpetual, endemic poverty. They come not to enrich but to drain, as they are egged on by power-hungry pols who seek advantage in displacing existing populations with compliant aliens. Francis is but one more of the lot, joining the ranks of Western European, Canadian, and most especially American, heads of state, who hearken to a global (dare one say “catholic”?) One World, with themselves as masters. In his case, as with the Vatican City walls, there is a difference. As the Grand Poobah of a worldwide religion, Francis can threaten recalcitrant political enemies with eternal hellfire, and not mere mundane repression, if they refuse to toe the mark.
The Pope, like his fellow pols, is a huckster on the make. Ignore his sanctimonious and hypocritical demand that you “know better our world and its beautiful diversity.” He and his cronies just want you subsumed within the mass of humanity whose movements they are encouraging every day whether it’s their WDMR or not. Don’t fall for it. You’re being had.
