Remain in Mexico Barely Enforced

When Joe Biden became president he moved quickly to remove the Trump Administration’s Remain in Mexico policy. It stopped illegal aliens from using bogus asylum claims to enter and remain in the U.S. Under this policy they had to have their claims judged in Mexico, which successfully stemmed illegal immigration across our border.

After the termination of Remain in Mexico, two federal courts ruled that it had to be reinstated. The Biden Administration did so with great reluctance, as it appealed the courts’ rulings. The extent of that reluctance is evident in figures recently released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Last month, out of 221,303 illegal aliens stopped by federal, only 199 were processed under Remain in Mexico.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said the March figures show that the current administration is “not willing to comply with the law.” He added that the de facto phase-out out of Remain in Mexico has been a great boon to Mexican drug cartels, which get as much as $10,000 for each illegal alien they bring into our country.

Said Paxton, “The cartels are basically in business with the Biden administration. The message has been sent to them: Bring as many as you can, and we’ll do the handoff. And these people coming across, they’re not running from the agents, they’re running to the agents to be transferred to the agents, and then the handoff can take place, and they can be sent all around the country.”
