If a plan currently being considered by the Biden administration goes through, illegal migrants from the south will soon be greeted at the border by “European-style reception centers” to welcome them to their new country and begin showering them with the benefits Biden believes is theirs by right.
The centers would temporarily house illegals and provide them with “access to recreation and educational programming, medical services, and legal counsel” while non-governmental organizations (NGOs) help them with their asylum applications.
Katie Tobin, the administration’s top immigration adviser on the National Security Council and a former employee of the United Nations refugee agency, explained to the Washington Post that the idea is modeled on similar sites in Germany that handle the massive influx of Syrian and Afghani asylum seekers there. She and others involved in the planning also point to the absorption of 70,000 Afghanis currently underway since Biden’s Afghan debacle in August.
“I think you’ll see us trying to draw good practices from other countries and the experience of Operational Allies Welcome,” Tobin said.
The guest illegals would be in a “non-carceral setting,” which means that could freely leave for the U.S. interior anytime they liked. Otherwise, they would remain at the centers while their applications for asylum were expedited. Although, as the Post indicates, less than 20 percent of Mexican and Central American asylum seekers actually have their applications approved, most remain here anyway. For example, in the years 2014 to 2019, some 1.7 million Central Americans applied for asylum at the border. Only 7.6 percent were eventually approved, but the overwhelming majority–more than 70 percent–are still here. Even if told to leave, they know that new ICE guidelines issued by the Biden administration make enforcement a low priority.
Breitbart News notes that government agencies expect that by the end of this year more than two million migrants will have illegally crossed into the United States from Mexico. Of those, as of late October, more than 530,000 had been released into the U.S. interior.
As the Big Guy famously said, “This country can tolerate a heck of a lot more people!”
