DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas seems to have no problem with illegal immigration. In an interview with Bloomberg TV on Monday, the secretary stated that Congress should enact more “lawful pathways” for illegals to enter the U.S. As for the estimated 12 million already residing here, Mayorkas endorsed President Biden’s proposal to grant them legal status and a pathway to citizenship.
The secretary said “[T]he 12 million people who are here in the United States . . . have been contributing so fundamentally to our country’s well-being. They’re our neighbors, our friends, our fellow congregants. . . . We need to do something, and I am hopeful and remain hopeful that Congress will do it.” Mayorkas evidently hasn’t noted the severe fiscal stress that bourgeoning illegal populations have recently placed on major U.S. cities.
