While LA Burns, Newsome Fiddles for Illegals

As Los Angeles was burning down, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) was dealing with an issue he evidently thought was more significant. This was reaching an agreement with far-left Democrats in the state legislature to fund efforts to thwart federal immigration law enforcement when President-elect Trump gets into office.

The agreement, which the full legislature will consider, would allocate $50 million in taxpayers’ funds to help illegal aliens remain in California. Of that total, $25 million would go to the California Department of Justice to push back against Trump’s initiatives, and $25 million more for various other steps to shield illegals from detention and deportation.

When Newsome proposed this plan in November he stated that “The freedoms we hold dear in California are under attack — and we won’t sit idle. California has faced this challenge before, and we know how to respond. We are prepared, and we will do everything necessary to ensure Californians have the support and resources they need to thrive.”

Newsome evidently equates illegal alien residents of his state with its citizens, both groups being “Californians.” Indeed it almost seems that he has some preference for the former over the latter. Citizens of Los Angeles who have watched their homes burn might be inclined to agree.
