We Said, No More NY News and Then . . .

This is too much. Again today we feature the guy who’s beginning to seem like the perennial guest star of this space, Mayor Eric Adams, the beleaguered mayor of New York City. As you know, Mr. Adams is like that old woman who lived in a shoe: he has so many dependents he doesn’t know w-t-f to do!

Just last month, Hizzoner announced he was going to put a bunch (well, a thousand, out of 100,000 plus) of illegal migrants up at an insane asylum: the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in Queens. Some think the mayor and his minions could benefit for a rest cure there themselves, but whatever.

This month, Adams is talking about a real jail! How’s that for originality. The mayor of New York City is actually in favor of sending honest-to-God illegal migrants to jail?

Of course not. Don’t be ridiculous. Adams is just looking for a home, for a hundred thousand dependents, and this loathesome structure came to mind. The jail in question, the Metropolitan Correctional Center, was a federal jail notorious for both its decrepitude and its rogue’s gallery of guests, including John Gotti, Bernie Madoff, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, and, perhaps most notoriously, the late Jeffrey Epstein. In fact, the facility was finally shut down in 2021 only after the controversial “suicide” of the latter.

Not that it shouldn’t have been decommissioned earlier. The New York Post writes:

The federal jail — long accused of being filthy, rodent- and bug-infested and suffering from water and sewage leaks — was shuttered after facing fresh scrutiny because of its squalid conditions and security lapses that were exposed in the wake of Epstein’s 2019 death.

Local pro-immigration leaders agree. Murad Awawdeh, of the New York Immigration Coalition, says the facility is unfit for human habitation:

Mayor Adams likes to say that all options are on the table when it comes to housing asylum seekers, but certain places should most definitely be off the table. The Metropolitan Correctional Center was a notoriously decrepit jail and is not a suitable place to support people trying to build a new life in a new country.

Actually, on consideration, we think seeing America from inside a pigsty of a jail is a perfect way for newcomers to get adjusted to that “new life in a new country,” the one that is being brought to us by Joe Biden.
