We Owe No Debt to Most Afghans

The Quote Below—More Misinformation from the Media:

“Even for a nation with such a proud legacy of immigrants – those “huddled masses yearning to breathe free, as it says on the Statue of Liberty – there is a special place in the American heart for Afghans.

“If the desperate drama playing out at the international airport in Kabul ends as President Joe Biden promise Sunday and America’s Afghan allies are successfully evacuated, America must welcome them with open arms.

“It’s something that should go without saying.

“But already, nativist voices from the Republican Party, the media and elsewhere are raising alarms about a sudden influx of Afghans into the USA. Former President Donald Trump pandered to this same sector last year when he slashed the annual refugee cap to a historically shameful 15,000.

“Every nation has an international responsibility to accept its share of refugees fleeing war, violence and natural disasters. Under Trump, America dismally failed that duty. (Biden has since raised the yearly refugee limit to 62,000.).

“Even by that score, the Afghans seeking refuge in America are in a category of their own. When the United States lost nearly 3,000 people in the terror attacks of 9/11 and acted to overthrow the Taliban regime harboring al-Qaida, tens of thousands of Afghans stepped forward to assist and protect U.S. military and relief efforts, in addition to nongovernmental and media organizations, working as translators, organizers, journalists, security personnel and more. , , ,

“We were in Afghanistan to protect ourselves in our own national interest,” says Mark Hetfield, president of HIAS, a resettlement agency. “They (the Afghans) protected us. We owe them a debt of gratitude. And we owe them a welcome to our country. . . .”

Biden told reporters Sunday that Afghans are being flown to U.S. military and transit centers in friendly countries to continue their processing and background checks: “Once screened and cleared, we will welcome these Afghans. . . . . That day will be lucky for them. And lucky for the USA. — Afghan Refugees, When the Nightmare Is Over, Welcome to the United States of America, The Editorial Board, USA TODAY, 8/24/21 [Link]

Fact Check of Above Quote: Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel famously remarked that “You never let a serious crisis go to waste.” The reason, he explained, is that “it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.” Our Mass Immigration Industrial Complex is applying this cynical advice as it promotes massive migration from Afghanistan, following the fall of that country to the Taliban. Before that a new surge of “refugees” was the last thing Americans wanted as they watched control of our southern border collapse. Biden surely wanted more than 62,000 refugees a year, but that’s all he figured he could get away with proposing.

Now with the Afghans coming, the ceiling will be much higher. Almost 125,000 are here already. The exploiters of this crisis use two lines of persuasion. The first is the one commonly employed by mass immigration advocates: sentimental effusions about “huddled masses.” This manipulation aims to supersede rational and critical thinking about immigration. Specifically, it provides no guidance as to how many “huddled masses” we can afford to admit without serious problems. These advocates never have the slightest concern for tired huddled masses of Americans who yearn to breathe free from hyper-diversity and multiculturalism.

The second line of argument is that we owe it to Afghans to let them in because they were our allies. This is true for certain individuals, probably much less than “tens of thousands,” who put themselves at risk to assist our war effort. But we have no obligation to Afghans in general who might not like their new government. Our presence gave them the opportunity to prevent rule by the Taliban. Because they weren’t motivated enough to do that, we are not obligated to spare them the consequences of their indifference.

The Afghans have a very different culture from ours which will make assimilation difficult. Most of them, for example, believe that Muslim Sharia law should be imposed on society. The claim that the Afghans will have adequate background checks is false. As one writer sarcastically notes, we can’t rely on the Taliban’s DMV in Kabul for vetting information.

Instead of bringing so many Afghans here, it would make more sense to settle them in neighboring countries. It would be more cost-effective as well. But this is not what our refugee “charities want. They make big money from resettlement here, while passing the costs on to local communities. This bogus humanitarianism, to use USA Today’s word, Is “shameful” in the extreme.
