In an interview with President Trump, host Laura Ingraham him if he understood that “If you want to raise wages for American workers, you can’t flood the country with tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of foreign [H-1B] workers.”
Trump replied, “I agree, but you also do have to bring talent.” Ingram countered: “Well, we have plenty of talented people here.” To which Trump replied, “No, you don’t.”
It’s unfortunate that the president has allowed himself to be deceived by the business interests who prefer H-1B visa workers to Americans because they can get away with paying the Americans less. The reality is that most H-1B workers are not particularly skilled or talented.
In many instances, companies have replaced their U.S. workers with H-1B workers. But before leaving the Americans are forced to train the H1-B holders to do the jobs they’re taking. To do that training, the Americans obviously have to be more skilled than their replacements.
