Voters Prefer Deportation

A Rasmussen poll of likely U.S. voters asked the following question: If given a choice between two candidates, one of whom favored granting amnesty to illegal aliens and one of whom favored deporting all illegal aliens, which candidate would you vote for?

Fifty-two percent said they would prefer the one for deportation. Thirty-six said they would support the pro-amnesty candidate, and twelve percent were undecided.

Responses tended to follow economic class. Fifty-five percent of those opposing amnesty made between $30,000 to $50.000 a year, and 51 percent of those making between $50.000 and $100.000 were opposed. In contrast, 60 percent of the respondents making $200,000 or more favored amnesty. These findings support the viewpoint that illegal immigration harms lower income Americans while benefitting those with higher incomes.
