Vance highlighted this hypocrisy in his speech, and called on the European Commission to heed the will of European peoples. He specifically noted the on-going efforts to silence and derail the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party which maintains that mass immigration is harming Germany. The vice president observed that “It’s good to be proud of German culture, German values, and not to lose that in some sort of multiculturalism that dilutes everything.”

Vance also affirmed America’s commitment to freedom of expression. He stated, “Just as the Biden administration seemed desperate to silence people for speaking their minds, so the Trump administration will do precisely the opposite and I hope we can work together on that.” The audience of was not happy about Vance’s comments. Few applauded.
