Update on Chicago’s Halloween Shootings

Here’s an update to Friday’s “Noem Nixes Pritzker’s Plea” posting. To refresh your memory, that post had to do with Illinois governor Pritzker asking DHS Secretary Kristi Noem to pause immigration law enforcement for the weekend in Chicago to permit the city’s illegals to celebrate the holiday “in peace.” Noem replied a curt No to that request, and, sadly, as it happened peaceful celebrations in several parts of Chicago proved impossible.

Not of course because of anything Noem’s enforcers did, but rather for the reason no weekends in the Windy City are peaceful these days: shootings at birthday parties, weddings, funerals, family reunions, football games, cookouts, graduations, gender reveals, etc, etc, virtually anywhere and anytime the city’s urbanites get together. This weekend, it was business as usual: 25 persons wounded by gunfire, two deaths (so far).

For those who like to keep a running tab, every Monday Chicago’s CBS television affiliate publishes a summary of the previous weekend’s pyrotechnics. This regular feature comes complete with a handy map indicating those areas of the city to avoid. The current run-down is here.
