Trump Visits Wall

President Trump visited the border wall at Alamo, Texas, yesterday, giving a speech detailing his administration’s immigration policies.

We took on the cartels, the coyotes, and the special interests, and we restored the rule of law. For years, politicians ran for office promising to secure the border, only to get elected and to do the absolute exact opposite. …. they promised a wall but they couldn’t get it built. . . . But unlike those who came before me, I kept my promises. And today we celebrate an extraordinary milestone: the completion of the promised 450 miles of border wall. Four hundred and fifty miles.

The President went on to list a number of immigration-related accomplishments, including:

  • Ending catch and release
  • Negotiating the “Migrant Protection Protocols” (Remain in Mexico) with the Mexican government
  • Negotiating “first safe third country” agreements with Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, making it possible to send asylum seekers to one of those countries, instead of the U.S.
  • Supporting ICE and Border Patrol officers

The visit and speech inspired the usual vitriol from the President’s foes. Alida Garcia, a representative of FWD.us, the far left website funded in part by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, tweeted the following:

This is pure evil. Where he will continue to wage war against people suffering because our country is breaking the law.

Alex Padilla, the California Democrat who will assume Kamala Harris’s Senate seat, tweeted:

In four years full of cruel, incomprehensible, and inhumane policies, the Trump Administration’s family separation rule tops the list as the most barbaric.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, at the Zuckerberg-funded American Immigration Council, tweeted:

Trump’s trip to the border only serves to drive home the point that there is no daylight between his attacks on immigrants and his attacks on democracy

And so it goes.
