Trump Going Soft?

At a recent Cabinet meeting on April 10, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the following to President Trump: “You have said that America’s laws matter and that they’ll be enforced. And we’re hard at work now to get people to go back home that are here illegally.”

But then she stated: “And [we are] making sure that these folks have the opportunity to go home so that they can get the chance to come back to America.” This chance, she added, “is important.” President Trump did not contradict her, and then discussed how legalized illegal aliens might continue to work in agriculture and the hotel industry.

Do these statements indicate that the administration is shifting away from its hard-line on illegal immigration? If so, is it reacting to political pressure from cheap labor interests? Or maybe could this be just another case of Trump shooting from the lip without really thinking through the implications of what he’s saying. Inquiring MAGA minds would really like to know.
