President Donald Trump has called for U.S. Representatives Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Michigan) to be sent “back from where they came,” following a heated confrontation during his State of the Union address on February 24, 2026.
The comments came in a post on Truth Social on February 25, 2026, where Trump wrote:
When you watch Low IQ Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, as they screamed uncontrollably last night at the very elegant State of the Union, such an important and beautiful event, they had the bulging, bloodshot eyes of crazy people, LUNATICS, mentally deranged and sick who, frankly, look like they should be institutionalized. When people can behave like that, and knowing that they are Crooked and Corrupt Politicians, so bad for our Country, we should send them back from where they came — as fast as possible.
The incident stemmed from disruptions during Trump’s address to Congress. Omar and Tlaib, both Muslim members of Congress (Omar is Somali-American, born in Somalia and naturalized as a U.S. citizen; Tlaib is Palestinian-American, born in Detroit), shouted interruptions while Trump discussed his administration’s immigration policies and enforcement actions. Reports indicate they accused him of “killing Americans” in reference to incidents involving federal law enforcement and criticized his portrayal of certain communities.
The statement has circulated widely on social media and in news outlets, with some supporters echoing agreement and others condemning it. No formal action has been reported as a result, as deportation is not legally applicable to U.S. citizens, though no doubt many real citizens favor it.
