As a means to encourage illegal aliens to return home, the Trump Administration is imposing fines on them. Specifically, those who fail to go home after being ordered to do so are facing charges of $1,000 for every day they remain. Currently, the administration has imposed a total $2 billion in fines on approximately 7,000 illegal aliens.
If they refuse to pay, the administration has several means to collect what they owe, including the garnishing of wages, liens against property, and employment of private collection agencies.
Critics of the Trump Administration maintain that it would be too expensive to deport any sizable share of the illegal aliens now living in the United States. This claim fails to consider the possibility of steps, like the fines, to increase the difficulty of living illegally in the United States. By taking these steps, our country can save great sums by compelling illegal aliens to deport themselves.
