Illegal crossing of our border from Mexico into the U.S. has been greatly reduced during the Wuhan virus pandemic, thanks to a law called Title 42, according to CBP chief Mark Morgan.
Morgan, who spoke to Breitbart News on Wednesday, said the law permits the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to direct his agency to return illegal border crossers to Mexico literally within hours, as opposed to the days, weeks, or months formerly required. Title 42 is a public health law that, in his words, avoids “undue dangerous exposure risk to our personnel, [and] to immigrants themselves.” It has resulted in up to 90 percent of illegal border crossers being immediately deported, thus minimizing the potential exposure of COVID-infected to one another, to border officials, and to the American populace.
Through Title 42, said Morgan, “We can remove [an infected] person right away and they are not going to be introduced into the system.”
Morgan also credited what he called “a network of tools and policies” with having enabled his agency to reduce the number of illegals crossing the border from a high of 144,000 in May 2019 to its current level of about 1,200 per day.
