The Quote Below—More Misinformation from the Media
“You have seen the blizzard of scary images — immigration agents taking parents away in front of their kids, masked officers raiding neighborhoods, men detained in remote centers — but here is the surprising fact behind the mayhem: Donald Trump has deported fewer people per month than Barack Obama did, and barely more than Joe Biden during a similar span last year, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement data obtained by NBC News.
“Trump signals that his administration is fearlessly executing mass deportations. But the numbers reveal a different reality. Since February, his administration has deported 14,700 people per month on average, according to NBC News. That’s far below Obama’s peak in 2013, when he deported 36,000 per month. And it’s not even close to the Trump administration’s reported goal of deporting 1 million people in a year.
“Trump’s deportation dragnet is less effective than those of his predecessors because it is chaotic, theatrical and detached from the systems that work. Rather than effectively coordinating with local law enforcement, following rules, laws and norms, or expanding and expediting legal processing, Trump has prioritized optics over outcomes. What his administration lacks in strategy, it tries to compensate for with spectacle — sweeping up schoolchildren, targeting families, broadcasting raids on social media.” — Trump Is Deporting Fewer People Than Obama. He’s Just Louder and Meaner, Fareed Zakara, The Washington Post, 7/18/25 [Link]
Fact Check of Above Quote: The claim that Barack Obama was a big deporter of illegal aliens is a lie that refuses to die. It came about as follows: During his administration Obama wanted to pass a mass amnesty for illegal aliens. But to placate amnesty opponents, he had to give the impression that he was strong on enforcement.
To do so, his administration simply cooked the books to make deportations appear much higher than they really were. Prior to Obama, deportations referred to illegal aliens sent home from the interior of our country. Under Obama, expulsions of illegals caught at the border were counted as deportations.
Interestingly, many Obama supporters didn’t understand what was going on. They believed that he really was carrying out record-level deportations. Angrily, they began referring to Obama as the deporter-in-chief. In an effort to clue them in, he did an outreach to Hispanic voters. He reassured them that the deportation figures were “a little deceptive.” Actually, it was a lot more than “a little.”
This Washington Post article employs the deporter-in-chief lie to give the impression that President Trump just talks a big talk about deportation, but Obama was the real deal—and he accomplished his alleged deportations with none of the alleged cruelties and brutalities of Trump. The media heap lies on top of lies to build their false narratives. It’s a shame they often get away with it.
