While never regarded as exactly “safe,” New York City’s Central Park is being menaced nowadays by gangs of illegal migrants, many of whom are Venezuelan nationals and some are no older than 11.
At least 30 robberies have been reported in the park this year, compared with just ten during the same period last year. At least ten of this year’s robberies are being blamed on a gang of about a dozen young migrants. In addition, there have been ten felony assaults, compared with just seven last year. Overall, crime in the park has spiked dramatically this year. Robberies are up 200%, felony assaults 43%, and major crimes up 46%.
An 11-year-old Venezuelan migrant was arrested this week in possession of stolen credit cards. The boy, along with a 17-year-old, had attacked a passenger on a subway hours earlier.
A notorious example of the migrant criminals is Venezuelan Daniel Hernandez Martinez, 30. After he illegally crossed into the US in January 2023, Martinez was identified a member of the Tren de Aragua gang. He was soon deported but returned and made his way to New York, where he began a six-month crime spree. During that time, he was arrested and then released a total of eight times and committed an estimated 22 crimes. This year, Martinez was again slated for deportation but Venezuela refused to accept him, so he is now in the US more or less permanently.
Addressing the migrant crime wave, NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell this week told reporters, “At this point in time, we’re ready to call it, this is a migrant robbery pattern.”
Brandon Judd of the National Border Patrol Council agreed, predicting, “This is going to get worse under a Kamala-Walz administration.”
