Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Friday released a detailed immigration plan to stop illegal immigration and limit legal immigration. While he has long been outspoken in his opposition to amnesty for illegals and demands for a secure border, in the past he had supported increased legal immigration and H-1B guest worker visas. Acknowledging the reality of high unemployment and underemployment, his plan calls for a freeze on current legal immigration levels and reforms to assure that immigrants are self-supporting. His plan would also end birthright citizenship and suspend issuance of H-1B visas while an audit of abuse of the program is conducted.
