A count in California has cleared illegal alien Jose Inez Garcia Zarate of the charge of felony possession of a firearm. In 2015 Zarate, who previously had been deported for criminal charges, shot and killed 32-year-old Kate Steinle in San Francisco. Subsequently, In a controversial decision, a jury acquitted him of murder and manslaughter, while convicting him of felony gun possession. That sole conviction in the case is now overturned, though Zarate still faces federal charges.
The San Francisco Police Officers Association issued the following statement about this latest ruling: “This is yet another disgusting injustice perpetrated by a broken criminal justice system that is more intent on re-harming the victims of crime and their families than holding violent offenders accountable.”
