South toward Home: Migrants Turning Around

There is evidence that some previously US-bound migrants are deciding to turn around and head back home — or at least elswhere — rather than attempt an increasingly difficult illegal entry into America.

The NY Post is quoting Border Patrol chief Mike Banks who posted to X this morning:

Verified reports confirming a new trend: migrants choosing to return home rather than continue north due to increased border security.

Banks goes on to cite two recent incidents illustrating the new trend:

– Feb 3: Honduran officials reported 26 migrants (Venezuelans & Cubans) traveling south back to Nicaragua.

– Feb 5: A group of 23 migrants (Hondurans, Venezuelans, Panamanians, & Salvadoran) was encountered re-entering Honduras from Guatemala after turning back from Mexico.

He concluded: “These individuals cited the heavy security posture along the U.S.-Mexico border and Mexico’s containment efforts as key reasons for reversing course.”

Encounters of illegals at the southern border have shrunk to near non-existence since Trump retook office on January 10. When once at the height of Biden’s open-borders policy, litterally tens of thousands might have crossed over, only 303 were noted on Sunday.
