Seattle Police Department Hiring Illegals as Cops

Last year, the city of Los Angeles raised the possibility of hiring DACA recipients as police officers. Now, Seattle, a second west-coast, far-left city suffering from its embrace of the “Defund the Police” movement in the old George Floyd days of 2020, is also welcoming so-called Dreamers to its seriously undermanned police force.

The Seattle Police Department had more than 1,400 sworn officers in 2017. Now it is down to 913, and Seattle radio host Jason Rantz told Fox News even that number may be exaggerated and in any event the city is in “dire need” of additional officers:

You had a movement that was out there calling cops, murderers and racists, and unfortunately, you had a city council at the time that embraced and amplified those messages. And so people started to leave in huge numbers.

Note that Dreamers remain illegal and their DACA recipient status is controversial and could be rescinded under another presidential administration. That could prove awkward if they had already been sworn in as cops.  Until recently, the SPD had required candidates for police positions to be US citizens or have legal permanent residency. Now, however, their job qualifications page says prospects can be a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients.

As radio personality Rantz pointed out, the fact that some people who are in this country illegally may now be enforcing the law is, to say the least, ironic.

And so it is, in these most ironic of times.
