This morning, testifying before the House Judiciary’s Subcommittee on Immigration, RJ Hauman of the National Immigration Center for Enforcement (NICE) said that from Oct. 1, 2022, to Feb. 6, 2025, sanctuary cities shielded more than 25,000 criminal illegal aliens by refusing to cooperate with ICE requests.
To no one’s surprise, more than half of the refusals occurred in California, where state and local officials protected more than 13,000 criminal illegal aliens. Los Angeles officials, for example, released at least six illegal aliens either convicted of or charged with murder rather than turn them over to ICE.
Consider the following: in February, 43-year-old illegal alien Mario Edgardo Garcia-Aquino was arrested in Los Angeles County for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old boy. Officials released him without turning him over to ICE. This week, he was arrested again — this time for the murder of a 13-year-old, whose body was found in a ditch.
Hauman told the subcommittee:
The American people spoke loud and clear in November. It’s time for Congress to wake up, shift into Trump gear, and act decisively — end sanctuary cities for good and launch mass deportations now. Every day we delay, we roll the dice on the next preventable tragedy, the next innocent life lost to a criminal alien we could have sent packing.
