Refugee Admissions to Be Cut

The U.S. State Department announced that refugee admissions for the next year will be cut to 18,000 people, down from the previous annual level of 30,000. President Trump also issued an executive order which permits state and local governments to bar refugee resettlement in their communities. The president said that this policy would ensure “that refugees are resettled in communities that are eager and equipped to support their successful integration into American society and the labor force.”
