On July 4th Great Britain will hold a general election. Immigration has been a significant issue in the campaign. The ruling Conservatives have disappointed many voters with its broken promises to control immigration. Thus it is likely that the Labour Party will win, even though its immigration policies probably will be worse than those of the Conservatives.
Public support for immigration control is strong, as shown by a recent poll which found that forty-three percent of Britons believe that immigration does more harm than good to their country, as opposed to 35 percent who view it positively.
A rising force in the coming election is the Reform Party, headed by Nigel Farage, Its key message is that immigration to Britain must be reduced. Polls indicate that Reform may surpass the Conservatives to become the leading opposition party to Labour.
