The Biden Administration’s agreement with Columbia and Panama to reduce the flow of migrants through the Darien Gap in Panama probably won’t result in less illegal immigration to the U.S., says Mark Krikorian of the Center for Immigration Studies. The stated goal of the deal is: “Open new lawful and flexible pathways for tens of thousands of migrants and refugees as an alternative to irregular migration.”
“In other words,” Krikorian observed, the aim is to “come up with ‘legal’ ways to admit the prospective illegal border-jumpers.” This goal is consistent with the administration’s policy of granting blanket “parole” status to illegal aliens, which allows them to have legal status in the U.S. and receive work permits.
