This week marks the 100-day point of the second Trump administration. To highlight the progress of the administration in fulfilling campaign promises thus far, this week WH press secretary is inviting select members of the admin to join her in special press conferences. Today, immigration czar Tom Homan spoke.
Homan opened the discussion by reviewing his history with the Border Patrol, noting that he had worked for a total of six presidents, of both parties, every one of whom took border security seriously. Even Obama and Clinton, he said, took “some steps” to secure the border, because they understood that national security was important.” But then came Joe Biden.
Joe Biden was the first president in the history of this nation who came into office and un-secured the border on purpose. . . .They did it on purpose, because you put them in ICE detention bed, they get a hearing in 35 days. Court records show nine out of ten people claim asylum, get order removal, they’re gone. But to release them and put them a hotel room at 500 bucks a night, their hearings could be 5, 7, 9 years. You pull out all appeals. And what are they hoping for then? That another Democrat administration is in power. . . . This is about selling this country out for future political power.
Turning to the success of the new Trump administration, Homan then ran through a series of statistics illustrating the progress. One in particular was the fact that under Biden the southern border saw some days with over 15,000 illegals entering. Over the past 24 hours, he said, the number was 178. Similarly, the number of known “got-aways” during the Biden years averaged 1,800 per day. Yesterday, he said, the number was 38. And so on.
Also at the press conference, Leavitt announced that later today President Trump would issue two related executive orders. The first, she said, “strengthen and unleash America’s law enforcement to pursue criminals and protect innocent citizens.” The second “will direct the Attorney General and Secretary of Homeland Security to publish a list of state and local jurisdictions that obstruct the enforcement of federal immigration laws.”
